IBPS RRB Eligibility Criteria 2026: Key Highlights

IBPS checks your eligibility on two fixed dates. Age is calculated as on 01 September 2026. Educational qualifications, including graduation proof, must be fulfilled as on 21 September 2026, which is the last date of online registration.

Important: Merely qualifying in the exam and getting provisionally allotted does not guarantee appointment. The allotted RRB verifies all documents in original at the time of joining. Failure to produce correct proof leads to cancellation of candidature.

Nationality and Citizenship

A candidate must be either:

• A citizen of India, or
• A subject of Nepal, or
• A subject of Bhutan, or
• A Tibetan Refugee who came to India before 01 January 1962 with the intention of permanently settling in India, or
• A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia, and Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India.

Candidates belonging to categories (ii) to (v) must produce a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

Age Limit and Category Wise Relaxation

The age limit varies by post and is calculated as on 01 September 2026. If your date of birth falls outside the prescribed range for your category, you are not eligible.

Post Wise Age Limits

The maximum age limit shown above applies to General and EWS category candidates. Reserved category candidates get relaxation on the upper age limit.

Category Wise Age Relaxation

How to read the table:

• A General category candidate born on 01 September 1997 is 29 years old on the cut off date. This is within the 18 to 30 years range for Officer Scale I, so they are eligible for that post.
• The same candidate is 29 years old, which exceeds the 28 year upper limit for Office Assistant, so they are not eligible for that post in General category.
• An OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidate gets 3 years relaxation. So for Office Assistant, the upper age becomes 31 years, and for Officer Scale I it becomes 33 years.

Special Rules for Women and Ex-Servicemen

Widows, divorced women, and women legally separated (Office Assistant post only):

• General and EWS: age concession up to 35 years
• OBC (Non-Creamy Layer): age concession up to 38 years
• SC and ST: age concession up to 40 years

You must produce the death certificate of your husband, or divorce or judicial separation papers, along with an affidavit that you have not remarried.

Ex-Servicemen:

• For Office Assistant: the relaxation is the actual period of service rendered in the defence forces plus 3 years. For Disabled Ex-Servicemen belonging to SC or ST, it is 8 years. The maximum age after relaxation cannot exceed 50 years.
• For Officers (Scale I, II, III): Ex-Servicemen who have rendered at least 5 years military service and have been released on completion of assignment get 5 years relaxation.
• Serving personnel whose specific period of engagement (SPE) ends on or before 20 September 2027 can apply under Ex-Servicemen category with the required proforma certificates.

Important cumulative rule: The relaxation for SC, ST, or OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) can be combined with only one of the other categories (PwBD, Ex-Servicemen, or widows/divorced women). You cannot combine two of the latter categories together.

Educational Qualification Requirements

The educational qualification is checked as on 21 September 2026. Your result must have been declared on or before this date, and you must have a proper document from your board or university to prove it.

Office Assistant and Officer Scale I

Both the Office Assistant (Multipurpose) and Officer Scale I (Assistant Manager) posts require:

• A Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university or its equivalent.
• Proficiency in the local language prescribed by the participating RRB (explained in detail below).
• Working knowledge of computers is desirable, not mandatory.

There is no minimum percentage required for these two posts. Any pass percentage is acceptable. There is also no stream restriction. Arts, Science, Commerce, Engineering, or any other discipline is accepted.

For Officer Scale I, preference is given to candidates having a degree in Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Science, Agricultural Engineering, Pisciculture, Agricultural Marketing and Cooperation, Information Technology, Management, Law, Economics, or Accountancy. But this preference does not make these degrees compulsory. Any graduate can apply.

Officer Scale II (General Banking Officer)

You need a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. Preference is given to candidates with degrees in Banking, Finance, Marketing, Agriculture, and related fields.

Officer Scale II (Specialist Officers)

Each specialist post has a specific qualification requirement:

Officer Scale III (Senior Manager)

You need a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate. Preference is given to candidates having a degree or diploma in Banking, Finance, Marketing, Agriculture, and related fields. You also need a minimum of 5 years of experience as an Officer in a Bank or Financial Institution.

Percentage and CGPA Calculation Rules

IBPS follows strict rules for calculating your graduation percentage:

• The percentage is calculated by dividing the total marks obtained in all subjects across all semesters or years by the aggregate maximum marks, then multiplying by 100.
• The fraction of the percentage so arrived is ignored. For example, 59.99% is treated as less than 60%, and 54.99% is treated as less than 55%. This matters for posts where a 50% minimum is required.
• If your university gives CGPA or OGPA, you must convert it into a percentage as per the criteria adopted by your university or institute.
• You must produce documentary proof of the conversion criteria at the time of document verification.

Final year students: To apply, your graduation result must have been declared on or before 21 September 2026. If your result is declared after this date, you are not eligible to apply this year. The date of passing is the date appearing on your mark sheet or provisional certificate.

Local Language Proficiency

For the posts of Office Assistant (Multipurpose) and Officer Scale I, proficiency in the local language of the RRB you are applying for is an essential qualification. Each participating RRB has prescribed its own local language or languages.

You can prove your proficiency in two ways:

• You have studied the language of the state at the Standard VIII level or any level above Standard VIII in a government recognised board of education or school.
• You have a certificate to the effect that you have studied the language at Standard VIII level or above.

If you do not meet the above requirement at the time of selection, you will be given six months from the date of joining to acquire proficiency in the local language. This period can be extended by the Boards of the RRBs, but not beyond the probation period.

Important: When you fill the online application form, you must select the state or union territory where you want to be posted. Your provisional allotment will be restricted to RRBs within that state. Choose your state carefully, keeping in mind the local language requirement. If you choose a state whose language you have not studied, you will need to acquire proficiency within six months of joining.

The local language for each state is specified in the official notification. For example, Telugu is the local language for Andhra Pradesh RRBs, Kannada for Karnataka RRBs, Marathi for Maharashtra RRBs, and so on. Some states accept multiple languages. For instance, Jammu and Kashmir RRBs accept Dogri, Kashmiri, Punjabi, Urdu, Gojri, Pahari, Ladakhi, Balti, Dardi, and Hindi.

Experience Requirements for Officer Scale II and III

Unlike Office Assistant and Officer Scale I, which require no prior experience, the Officer Scale II and III posts demand post-qualification experience in the relevant field.

The experience must be completed as on 21 September 2026, which is the last date of online registration. Experience certificates must be produced at the time of interview in original or as a digitally signed copy or as received from a valid email ID, subject to verification.

Documents Required for Eligibility Verification

At the time of interview (for Officers Scale I, II, and III) or joining (for Office Assistant), you must produce the following documents in original and self-attested photocopies:

• System generated printout of the valid online application form for CRP RRBs XV
• Proof of date of birth: Birth certificate or SSLC or Class 10 certificate with date of birth
• Photo identity proof (same name as on call letter) in original plus photocopy
• Graduation mark sheets or degree certificate, plus CGPA to percentage conversion certificate if applicable, with the date of passing on or before 21 September 2026
• Experience certificates (as on 21 September 2026) if applicable
• Caste certificate in the prescribed Government of India format for SC, ST, or OBC categories
• Income and Asset certificate in the prescribed format for EWS category

• OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) certificate must be issued on or after 01 April 2026 till the date of interview or document verification. It must contain the non-creamy layer clause. If your caste is not in the Central List, you cannot claim OBC reservation.
• EWS certificate must be valid for the year 2026 to 2027 for the financial year 2025 to 2026.
• OBC candidates belonging to the creamy layer must apply as General category.

IBPS RRB Eligibility FAQs

Is IBPS RRB and Gramin Bank the same?

Yes. IBPS RRB is the recruitment process, and Gramin Bank (Regional Rural Bank) is the workplace. Every year IBPS conducts the Common Recruitment Process (CRP RRBs) on behalf of 28 Regional Rural Banks across India. When you qualify, you are provisionally allotted to one of these Gramin Banks. So IBPS RRB exam and Gramin Bank recruitment are two names for the same process.

What is the IBPS RRB Office Assistant eligibility?

The IBPS RRB Office Assistant (Multipurpose) post requires a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised university, proficiency in the local language of the RRB, and an age between 18 and 28 years as on 01 September 2026. There is no minimum percentage and no prior experience needed. Computer knowledge is desirable but not compulsory.

Can a 12th pass candidate apply for IBPS RRB?

No. The minimum educational qualification for every IBPS RRB post, including Office Assistant, is a Bachelor’s degree. A candidate who has passed only Class 12 is not eligible for any post in the IBPS RRB recruitment.

Can final year graduation students apply?

Only if your graduation result is declared on or before 21 September 2026. If your final year result comes after this date, you cannot apply this year. You must submit a proper document from your university proving the date of passing.

Are female candidates eligible for IBPS RRB?

Yes. There is no gender restriction in the IBPS RRB eligibility criteria. The upper age limit is relaxed by 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) and 5 years for SC and ST candidates. For example, the Office Assistant upper age becomes 31 years for OBC and 33 years for SC/ST, while the Officer Scale I upper age becomes 33 years for OBC and 35 years for SC/ST.

Do I need work experience to apply?

No experience is required for the Office Assistant (Multipurpose) and Officer Scale I posts. Experience is mandatory only for Officer Scale II posts (1 to 2 years depending on the post) and Officer Scale III (5 years as an officer in a bank or financial institution).

How many posts can I apply for?

You can apply for the Office Assistant post and, separately, for one post in the Officer cadre. That means you can apply for Office Assistant plus Officer Scale I, OR Office Assistant plus Officer Scale II, OR Office Assistant plus Officer Scale III. You cannot apply for more than one Officer cadre post. Each application requires a separate form and separate fee.

Which documents prove local language proficiency?

You can prove local language proficiency if you have studied the language of the state at Standard VIII level or above in a government recognised board. A certificate to this effect is accepted. If you cannot prove it, you get six months from joining to learn the language, extendable within the probation period.
