Introduction

UIIC AO eligibility for 2026 is simple on paper but strict in checking. You must be 21 to 30 years old as on 30 June 2026, hold the required degree with 60 percent marks (55 percent for SC, ST and PwBD), and meet nationality and computer knowledge rules.

United India Insurance Company Limited released the UIIC AO Recruitment 2026 notification on 7 September 2026 for 225 Administrative Officer Scale I posts. It includes 200 Generalist posts and 25 Hindi Officer posts. Online applications run from 8 September to 28 September 2026.

This guide explains the UIIC AO age limit, OBC, SC and ST relaxation, Generalist versus Hindi Officer qualification, final year rules, quota and certificate formats, and documents needed for verification. Read it fully before you apply, because a small mistake in age proof or percentage can cancel your candidature even after the interview.

UIIC AO Eligibility Overview

What is UIIC AO exam? It is the recruitment for Administrative Officer Scale I in United India Insurance Company Limited, a public sector general insurance company. Selection in 2026 happens through Prelims, Mains with Descriptive Test, and Interview.

Is UIIC AO conducted every year? No. UIIC announces AO vacancies based on need. Recent cycles were held in January 2024 for 250 Generalist posts, in October 2024 for 200 Generalist and Specialist posts, and now in September 2026 for 225 Generalist and Hindi Officer posts.

You can apply for only one discipline, either Generalist or Hindi Officer. You cannot change discipline after registration.

Age Limit and Relaxation

The UIIC AO age limit 2026 is 21 to 30 years as on 30 June 2026. You must have been born not earlier than 30 June 1996 and not later than 30 June 2005. Both dates are included.

This cutoff date is final. UIIC checks age from your birth certificate or Class 10 certificate during the interview.

UIIC AO age limit for OBC, SC, ST

Upper age relaxation is available only to eligible reserved categories. The details are given below.

Three rules need special attention.

• If you qualify for relaxation under more than one category, UIIC can add the relaxations. But your age must not cross 45 years.
• OBC benefit applies only to Non Creamy Layer. Creamy Layer candidates must apply as General.
• You must show the original caste, disability, discharge, or service certificate at the interview. If you fail to produce it, UIIC can cancel your candidature and will not refund travel cost.

Note: EWS candidates get reservation in vacancies but do not get age relaxation. PwBD reservation is horizontal, which means PwBD seats are adjusted within SC, ST, OBC, EWS and General groups.

Generalist Qualification

UIIC AO Generalist eligibility needs a Graduate degree or Post Graduate degree in any discipline from a recognised university. This includes Engineering, Arts, Science, Commerce, Agriculture, Data Science and similar fields.

The marks rule is clear.

• General, OBC and EWS candidates need at least 60 percent marks in either graduation or post graduation.
• SC, ST and PwBD candidates need at least 55 percent marks in either graduation or post graduation.

So if you scored 58 percent in graduation but 65 percent in post graduation, you are eligible as a General candidate. UIIC checks either degree, not both.

Three conditions apply to all degrees.

• The degree must come from a university or institute in India approved by UGC or AICTE, as applicable, and recognised by the Central Government.
• The course must follow the 10 plus 2 plus 3 pattern or an equal system.
• Working knowledge of computers is a must. You do not need to upload a computer certificate during application, but you must be able to work on computers.

CGPA and percentage proof

If your university gives only CGPA, OGPA or SGPA, you must bring a certificate from the university that explains the conversion rule and your percentage as per that rule. UIIC will ignore the fraction. For example, 59.99 percent will be treated as less than 60 percent. So 59.99 percent does not make a General candidate eligible.

Hindi Officer Qualification

UIIC AO Hindi Officer posts need a Master degree with a specific Hindi and English combination. You need 60 percent marks, or 55 percent if you belong to SC, ST or PwBD. Any one of the following five options makes you eligible.

• Master degree in Hindi with English as a compulsory or elective subject, or as the medium of exam at degree level.
• Master degree in English with Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject, or as the medium of exam at degree level.
• Master degree in any subject other than Hindi or English, with Hindi as medium and English as a compulsory or elective subject, or as medium at degree level.
• Master degree in any subject other than Hindi or English, with English as medium and Hindi as a compulsory or elective subject, or as medium at degree level.
• Master degree in any subject other than Hindi or English, with Hindi and English as compulsory or elective subjects, or one as medium and the other as subject at degree level.

In simple words, UIIC checks that you studied both Hindi and English at the right level. Only a Master degree without the required Hindi and English mix will not work.

UIIC AO Legal and Finance eligibility explained

Many aspirants ask about UIIC AO legal eligibility and UIIC AO finance eligibility. For the 2026 cycle, UIIC has announced only Generalist and Hindi Officer posts. There are no separate Legal, Finance, IT or Accounts streams this time.

In the October 2024 cycle, UIIC had Specialist posts for Risk Management, Finance and Investment, Automobile Engineer, Chemical or Mechatronics Engineer, Data Analytics and Legal. Those required B.E. or B.Tech., M.Com., CA, ICWA, Law degree with Bar Council registration, and similar specialist degrees. Do not mix those old rules with 2026. For 2026, check only Generalist or Hindi Officer rules.

Can Final Year Students Apply?

No. Final year students who are still waiting for results cannot apply for UIIC AO 2026.

UIIC clearly states that you must have completed the required qualification on or before 30 June 2026. You must hold proof of passing as on that date. If you wrote the final exam before 30 June 2026 but your result came after 30 June 2026, you are not eligible.

Backlog cases also fail at verification. If you cleared a backlog paper after 30 June 2026, your degree completion date shifts after the cutoff date. UIIC will reject such cases during document verification.

Pro Tip: Keep your final mark sheet, degree certificate or provisional certificate ready with a date on or before 30 June 2026. If your university declares results late, do not apply this year.

Nationality and Computer Rule

To apply for UIIC AO 2026, you must meet one of the following nationality conditions.

• Citizen of India.
• Subject of Nepal or Bhutan.
• Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1 January 1962 to settle permanently.
• Person of Indian origin who migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam to settle permanently in India.

If you belong to any group other than Indian citizen, you must hold a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India.

Working knowledge of computers is compulsory for both Generalist and Hindi Officer posts. Daily AO work involves online systems for policies, claims and reports. Practice basic computer use, typing, email, spreadsheets and online tests before Mains, because the Descriptive Test needs typing on a computer.

Quota, Certificates, EWS Norms

UIIC AO 2026 has 225 provisional vacancies. The category split for Generalists is 68 General, 62 OBC, 30 SC, 18 ST and 22 EWS. For Hindi Officers, it is 11 General, 7 OBC, 4 SC, 1 ST and 2 EWS.

Reservation works on three levels.

• Vertical quota: SC, ST, OBC Non Creamy Layer and EWS get reserved posts as per the table above.
• Horizontal quota: PwBD posts are adjusted inside each vertical group.
• State rule for Maharashtra: If you claim SC, ST or OBC benefit from Maharashtra, you must bring a Caste Validity Certificate from the proper authority at the interview.

Which certificate to keep ready

• SC and ST candidates need a latest permanent caste certificate.
• OBC candidates need a fresh Non Creamy Layer certificate in the Central Government format. The caste must appear in both Central and State lists of your home state. The certificate must state that you do not belong to the Creamy Layer.
• EWS candidates need an Income and Asset Certificate in the prescribed Government format. It must be issued by District Magistrate, Additional District Magistrate, Collector, Deputy Commissioner, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Tehsildar level Revenue Officer, or other listed authority.
• PwBD candidates need a disability certificate from the District Medical Board, which includes the Chief Medical Officer and specialists as per rules.
• Ex-servicemen need discharge proof showing at least five years of military service and the reason for release.

UIIC checks these certificates at the interview and at any later stage. No change in category is allowed after you submit the online form.

UIIC AO vs LIC AAO

Many aspirants compare UIIC AO vs LIC AAO before applying. Both are officer posts in public sector insurance, but there are clear differences.

If you want general insurance work with branch, claims and underwriting duties, UIIC AO suits you. If you want life insurance with higher starting pay and wider posting network, LIC AAO may suit you. Eligibility rules are similar on age and graduation marks, but always check the live notification of each exam.

Selection Process in Brief

How to apply for UIIC AO 2026? You can apply only online on uiic.co.in from 8 September to 28 September 2026. Fee payment also closes on 28 September 2026.

The UIIC AO 2026 selection process has four steps.

1. Tier I Prelims, 100 marks in 60 minutes, with English, Reasoning and Quant. It is only a screening test. Marks are not added to final merit.
2. Tier II Mains objective test. For Generalists it is 200 questions for 250 marks. For Hindi Officers it is 150 questions for 200 marks with a Professional Knowledge section.
3. Descriptive Test right after Mains on the same computer. Generalists write Letter and Essay for 30 marks in 30 minutes. Hindi Officers write Essays, Letters and Translation for 50 marks in 60 minutes.
4. Interview for candidates shortlisted up to three times the vacancies. Final merit uses Mains and Interview in 75 to 25 ratio. For Generalists, only Mains objective plus Interview count. For Hindi Officers, Mains objective plus Descriptive plus Interview count.

There is negative marking of one fourth mark for each wrong answer in Prelims and Mains. You must also clear sectional and overall cutoffs.

Documents and Rejection Risks

UIIC AO 2026 required documents start at the application stage and end at the interview. Keep them ready early to avoid last minute rejection.

For online application, keep a valid email and mobile number, photo, signature, left thumb impression and handwritten declaration in JPG format. The declaration text is fixed in the notification and must be written by you in English, not in capital letters. The photo should be a recent colour passport photo. Signature in capital letters is not accepted.

For interview verification, keep originals plus attested copies of age proof, degree mark sheets and degree certificate, CGPA conversion letter if needed, category or EWS or PwBD certificate, ex-serviceman or employee proof where applicable, and photo ID. Outstation candidates called for interview get sleeper class rail or bus fare refund on proof of travel, but only if they meet eligibility.

Common rejection triggers are wrong cutoff reading, late degree results, 59.99 percent rounded to 60, creamy layer OBC certificate, missing caste validity for Maharashtra, blurred uploads, and applying for both disciplines. UIIC allows only one application. Multiple applications lead to cancellation.

What to do next?

Check your birth dates against 30 June 1996 to 30 June 2005, confirm your degree percentage as on 30 June 2026, and keep your caste, EWS or PwBD certificate in the correct format. If you are eligible, apply online before 28 September 2026 and start Prelims practice for 22 October 2026.
