Other key rules for uiic ao syllabus and exam pattern:
- Medium is English and Hindi except English section which is English only.
- Each section is separately timed. You cannot carry time from one section to another.
- There is negative marking of one fourth mark for each wrong answer in Prelims and Mains. There is no penalty for unanswered questions.
- You must clear sectional cut off and overall cut off.
What to study in each section
English Language: Reading comprehension, cloze test, para jumbles, error detection, sentence improvement, fill in the blanks, vocabulary, idioms and phrases. Bank PO level preparation is enough.
Reasoning: Puzzles, seating arrangement, syllogism with only a few type, inequalities, blood relation, coding decoding, order and ranking, direction sense, alphanumeric series, data sufficiency, input output. Focus on speed with accuracy.
Quantitative Aptitude: Simplification and approximation, number series, quadratic equations and quantity comparison, data interpretation including table, bar, line, pie and caselet, arithmetic including percentage, profit and loss, simple and compound interest, time and work, time and distance, ratio, average, mixture, mensuration.
General Awareness with special reference to Financial Sector: This is the main difference from bank prelims. It has banking awareness, insurance awareness, current affairs of last 4 to 6 months, financial terms, RBI and IRDAI updates, government insurance schemes, budget and economic survey points.
Computer Knowledge: Fundamentals, hardware and software, MS Office, internet, networking basics, shortcut keys, computer history. Only 20 marks and 10 minutes, so keep it quick and scoring.
Bank to Insurance Shift
If you are preparing for IBPS PO, SBI PO or IBPS Clerk, your Quant, Reasoning and English carryover is already 170 out of 250 marks. Do not restart these subjects. Revise them through Bank PO mocks and shift the saved time to insurance terms, IRDAI, LIC and GIC.
UIIC General Awareness gives 60 marks in 30 minutes. That is 2 marks per minute, the highest return in the paper. Bank aspirants who ignore this section lose selection here.
3 week insurance awareness module
Divide insurance study into three small parts. Study 60 to 90 minutes daily.
1. Insurance basics and terms: Principle of utmost good faith, indemnity, insurable interest, subrogation, contribution, proximate cause, loss of profit. Types of insurance: life, health, motor, fire, marine, crop, liability, property. Key words: premium, sum assured, policyholder, nominee, underwriting, claim, reinsurance, bancassurance.
2. IRDAI, LIC, GIC and laws: Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) is the insurance regulator. IRDAI stands for Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India. It protects policyholders and controls insurers. Learn its functions, headquarters at Hyderabad, Insurance Act 1938, IRDA Act 1999, Insurance Ombudsman for complaint redressal. Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) is the largest life insurer in public sector. General Insurance Corporation (GIC Re) is the national reinsurer. Know public sector general insurers including UIIC, New India, Oriental and National.
3. Government schemes and news capsule: Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Ayushman Bharat, PM Fasal Bima Yojana, Atal Pension Yojana. Previous Year Cut Off
The uiic ao previous year cut off helps you fix a safe target. UIIC releases both sectional cut off and category wise overall cut off. You must clear both.
UIIC AO cut off 2024 Generalist
This is the latest and most useful reference. It was out of 250 marks for the online exam.
| Category | Cut Off out of 250 |
|---|---|
| UR | 156.39 |
| OBC | 147.19 |
| EWS | 144.76 |
| SC | 131.76 |
| ST | 117.35 |
Sectional cut off in 2024 was very low, around 1 to 1.5 marks in each objective section, and around 12 to 15 marks in descriptive out of 30. This means sectional cut off only filters very low scores. Final selection depends on high overall total.
UIIC AO cut off 2023-24
| Category | Cut Off |
|---|---|
| UR | 127.75 |
| OBC | 119.75 |
| EWS | 120.00 |
| SC | 107.75 |
| ST | 97.75 |
The 2023 and 2024 figures differ because vacancies, paper difficulty and number of candidates change each year. In 2024 UIIC had 250 posts. In 2026 UIIC has 225 posts, with 200 Generalist posts. Fewer posts can push the uiic ao cutoff prelims and mains higher if the paper is easy.
Safe score logic for 2026
- For UR, aim for 165 plus in mocks out of 250 to stay safe for interview call. For OBC and EWS, aim for 155 plus. For SC, aim for 140 plus. For ST, aim for 125 plus.
- Do not chase sectional toppers. First secure sectional cut off with safe attempts, then push total in your strongest two sections.
- Control negative marking. One fourth mark is cut for each wrong answer. In GA and Computer, attempt only when you are 70 percent sure. In Quant and Reasoning, avoid blind guesses in the last 2 minutes.
- Remember final merit for Generalist is Mains objective plus Interview in 75 to 25 ratio. So every extra mark in Mains objective directly improves final rank.
Descriptive English Guide
Generalist descriptive has 2 questions in 30 minutes for 30 marks. Letter writing for 10 marks and essay for 20 marks. You type on computer. It is qualifying, but you must obtain minimum marks decided by UIIC or your objective paper will not help you reach interview.

Essay template, 250 words in 20 minutes

Use 4 para structure:
- Introduction: Define topic in 3 lines with one fact
- Present status: Give 2 data points or schemes like PMJJBY, PMSBY, Ayushman Bharat
- Challenges and solutions: Write 3 points each
- Conclusion: Positive closing with way forward in 2 lines
Practice typing without spelling errors. No extra time is given for checking. Write one letter plus one essay every alternate day in the last 2 weeks. Check word count, grammar and formal tone.

Is UIIC AO Exam Easy
Many bank aspirants ask is uiic ao exam easy and what is uiic ao exam. UIIC AO is Administrative Officer Scale I in a public sector general insurance company. Work includes underwriting, claims, policy servicing, branch administration and customer support. Salary starts at basic pay of ₹82,485 with gross around ₹1,10,000 in metro cities, plus NPS, medical and leased accommodation.
Difficulty is moderate, close to IBPS PO Mains. Quant, Reasoning and English carryover makes it easier for bank aspirants than freshers. If you have a Bank PO mock transfer base, treat UIIC Mains as Bank Mains plus 3 week insurance bridge. That is the easiest path to selection.
